DEFENCE REGULATIONS EXTENDED

RUGBY, August 19.

The Minister of Home Security, Sir John Anderson, has made an order bringing the whole of Great Britain within the scope of the defence regulations The effect of this is to give the regional commissioners in England, Scotland and Wales authority, subject to the control and direction of the Minister, to issue any directions or orders required for the purposes of defence within their respective - areas The commissioners will act in close co-operation with the military authorities.

The new order is a precautionary measure. It places no fresh' restrictions on public freedom, but it does enable any measures which might become urgently necessary through enemy landing by air or sea to be introduced without delay in any part of the country in which they are required.
