INDICATOR ERECTED With the indicator close to the £15,000 mark, a large sign, like a thermometer, has been erected on the veranda in front of the Public Library. By this means the public will be kept informed of the steady rise in the Southland Fighter Plane Fund, the objective of which is £21,000, the cost in New Zealand currency of two fighters for Britain. At the head and foot of the indicator are paintings of aeroplanes and anti-aircraft guns. It was built by students of the South-

land Technical College, under the direction of Mr R.-H. Parker, and materials were supplied free of charge by Smith and Smith, Ltd. (paint), John Edmond, Ltd. (nails and bolts) and Georgeson Bros. (timber). It was erected by Wilson Bros, and carted from the college by the New Zealand Express Company, both firms giving their services free. Permission to place the indicator in its present position was given by the Invercargill City Council and Mr W. Aitchison.
