PROGRESS IN AVIATION

(United Press Association) AUCKLAND, July 16. “Present information suggests that speed in aviation will reach not much more than about 620 miles an hour. At that stage the airflow starts to change and the resistance alters altogether,” said Professor Leech, Professor of Engineering at the Auckland University College, when addressing members of the Auckland institute on the progress in aviation. “As for passengers and freight, on existing data it would be possible to build a 500-ton flying-boat. In other words, present knowledge of design and construction would enable us to build machines 25 times bigger than those we see now in Auckland. However, I would not like to forecast the developments here.”
