UNIQUE RECORD OF OFFICE-BEARERS
The progress the Winton Trotting Club has made has reflected great credit on those of-fice-bearers who have held important positions down through the years. In this respect the Winton Club has rather a unique record. During the 25 years since it was granted a totalizator permit the club has had five presidents, and One of these held office for 15 years. Mr James Tobin was elected president in 1915 and Mr J. O’Shannessy for the three following years. Mr O’Shannessy was re-elected to this position again in 1936—almost 20 years after his first term—and he has held office for the last four years and is the president for this year’s jubilee fixture. Mr W. D. Cowie was president in 1919 and Mr Adam Baird was elected in 1920. Mr Baird held office for 15 years, until 1935. Mr W. D. Cowie was elected secretary for the first totalizator meeting of the club but he was transferred from the district before the meeting and Mr H. A. Pierce, a steward of the club at the time, was elected to this office. Mr Pierce is still secretary of the club, having filled this position for the 25 years that the club has held a totalizator licence. Besides these duties Mr Pierce is also handicapper to the club, a position he has held for the last 15 years.
