INTOXICATION CHARGE AT WELLINGTON

(United Press Association)

WELLINGTON, December 28. A sentence of seven days’ imprisonment was imposed on George Hayes Powell, aged 26 years, of Alfredtown, a tractor driver, for intoxication while in charge of a car. He was prohibited from driving for a year. Powell was stopped after entering Wellington. Two of the three other occupants of the car were also intoxicated. To the plea that it was just “a bit of a Christmas spree,” the Magistrate, Mr W. F. Stilwell, S.M., replied that the case was just the kind the Act was particularly designed to prevent.
