At the outbreak of the war Mr and Mrs Tapper and their niece went to stay with Mrs Gifford Eccles (formerly Lettice Tapper) now living in Shropshire. At present Miss Jessie Tapper is staying with her cousin and his wife, Mr and Mrs G. E. Page, in Essex. Mr Page is a son of Mr and Mrs J. E. Page, of Mission Bay, Auckland. WOMEN IN SHADOWS OF WAR

.1 — Women of Invercargill stood. deeper in the shadows of war yesterday morning when a large number met on the station to bid farewell to members of the special force who were returning to camp after final leave. To many of the older women it was a repetition of war scenes of other days, only this time they were bidding, farewell to sons instead of husbands, brothers or sweethearts. The younger women, many of them with small children, were brave and cheerful. Doubtless their thoughts were already occupied with duties they could perform while the war continues.
