BRITISH DIPLOMAT RELEASED

(British Official Wireless)

(Received December 28, 6.30 p.m.) RUGBY, December 27.

The German Government having apparently satisfied itself that the British Government, in accordance with international law and practice, is not detaining career, diplomatic or consular officers of enemy nationality passing through the British controls, has decided to release Mr Gordon Vereker, who arrived at Oslo on the evening of Christmas Day. Mr Vereker, formerly Counsellor at the British Embassy in Moscow, was returning to London before proceeding to his new post as British Minister at La Paz (Bolivia).
