TASK CONFRONTING HOUSEWIVES
PROVIDING FOODSTUFFS FOR WEEK-END
With the experience of the previous week-end to guide them, housewives in Invercargill should have no difficulty in providing sufficient foodstuffs to last over the New Year holiday period. As at Christmas, a weekly half-holiday and a Sunday immediately precede New Year’s Day and wives will have to secure provisions for three days and ahalf before shops shut at noon tomorrow.
New Year’s Eve will be observed tonight, late shopping night. If they wish to do so retailers inay remain open until 10 p.m., but some of them are closing at 9 p.m. The shops will be open tomorrow morning, and will then close until Wednesday morning. However, butchers’ shops will close at 9 p.m. tonight and will not reopen until Wednesday. Bread will be baked and delivered today and tomorrow and no. more supplies will be available until Wednesday. Banks will close on Monday and Tuesday and stock, and station agents will close on January 1,2 and 3.
