GOVERNMENT FILM FOR CENTENNIAL
MEMORIAL TO PIONEERS OF NEW ZEALAND (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, November 10. “When the New Zealand Centennial film, now in course of production at the Government Studios at Miramar, is completed it will serve a three-fold purpose,” said the Minister in Charge of Tourist and Publicity (the Hon. F. Langstone). “Primarily it will be a memorial to the pioneers of New Zealand, as sections of the film deal with the development of the country and the hardships and privations endured by the first white settlers. “Though not intended as a scenic film, the picture will contain as a background to the action ‘shots’ of some of New Zealand’s finest scenery and the film when sent overseas should prove splendid publicity. Last, the film will have a message for the youth of today, as it will show how the pioneers by courage and endurance won for the generations to follow a glorious heritage. “The producers of the film are going to considerable trouble to ensure as accurate a representation as possible of life in the early days of the colony. The film will depict the more im-. portant happenings in the past 100 years of the Dominion’s history, the final portion being devoted to New Zealand of today, with particular emphasis on the development of industries and commerce and the modernization of agriculture.” The film when completed next August or September is expected to be between 5000 and 6000 feet in length. |
