CANTALA STAKES, £2500, one mile, to be run on October 29: — Young Idea, Gold Rod,. Pamelus, El Golea, Mohican, Evening Mist, .Footmark, Nightguard, St. Constant, Ena, Judean, Othello, Micawber, Hegemonic, Amigo (New Zealand), Jakin, Maori Song (New Zealand), Winterset. Nuffield galloped one mile and 20 yards in 1.42 J at Mentone today. He pulled up well; it was a splendid trial. Conveyor is an acceptor for the Kyneton Handicap tomorrow. New Zealand acceptors for the Maribyrnong Plate include Beaucaire and Beaumari.

CAULFIELD AND FLEMINGTON Conditions were ideal for galloping today. On the Caulfield steeplechase grass, next the rails, Tempest easily beat Fort Regal over 10 furlongs in 2.10 J. Lynch Law defeated Destiny Bay over five furlongs in 1.3, and Romford, running comfortably alongside Wellington Maid, covered four furlongs in 0.49. Twenty feet out, Othello smartly ran six furlongs in 1.15 J. Marauder and Son of Aurous finished together, doing 10 furlongs in 2.13. Beechwood beat Sylphide over six furlongs in 1.165, ana Beaumari and Esperanto together did four furlongs in 0.50. On the sand Royal Chief, after even time work, sprinted four furlongs .in 0.533; he was very fit. The Trump did seven furlongs in 1.32, and Bourbon, going well, covered 14 furlongs in 3.10; he finished strongly, the time for the last 10 being 2.15.. At Flemington, on the tan, Gold Roa, going well, did six furlongs in 1.16 J. On the course proper, 30ft out, Sir Regent and Bachelor King—both without shoes—ran 10 furlongs in 2.12. St. Constant and Good Boy finished together after nine furlongs in 1.59 J. Gay Knight beat L’Aiglon over nine furlongs in 1.59. El Senorita beat Haughty Stare over a mile in 1.46 J, and Diamond Wedding beat Bonheur de Pere over seven furlongs in 1.31 J. Young Crusader, running freely, covered 10 furlongs in 2.13 and Mohican, four furlongs in 0.51 J. Down the straight Mar’s Flight beat Magnetic Knight and Captain Kettle over five furlongs in 1.3 J, and Beaucaire beat Kestrel and Vigilance in 1.3 g.

FALLING HORSES AT AUCKLAND FINE OF £2O IMPOSED ON DRIVER (United Press Association) AUCKLAND, October 25. The judicial committee of the Auckland Trotting Club conducted a long inquiry into the circumstances of the falling of Top Hand, Scottish Bard and Wall Street in the Improvers’ Handicap on Monday. It was found that W. Clifton, driver of Bronze King, was guilty of interference which caused the accident and he was fined £2O.
