“This is our ‘coming of age’ year and we would like to mark it with a forward move,” states the annual report of the Presbyterian Social Service Association. “During the 31 years of our existence no fewer than 203 children have been cared for in our orphanages. So far that is good, but, as we have pointed out often in the past, there are other spheres of social service we would like to enter. We feel the need of an old people’s home, where those who have come to the stage when they can no longer care for themselves will be cared for. Old age pensions cannot provide the atmosphere of home and the loving care which so many of these people miss. This we would like to secure for them. But the work wants capital and, although we have one legacy towards the assistance of old women, it is not nearly enough to warrant us launching out in this sphere of service.”
