SOUTHERN POTATOES IN AUCKLAND
RED DAKOTAS SENT BY GOVERNMENT (United Press Association) AUCKLAND, October 25. A feature of the local grain and produce markets is the arrival in Auckland of a fair-sized shipment of southern potatoes, sent up by the Government for disposal locally. The price is fixed at 5/- above the ordinary market rates.
The tubers are Red Dakotas, with export grading. As the quality is well ahead of that usually received here from the south, it is expected that a ready clearance will be made. The demand in the city for old season’s potatoes is still brisk, as the high price asked for the few nevz season’s that are available (Pukekohe) precludes them entering into serious competition. The demand for seed potatoes shows signs of easing.
