AIR RAID SHELTERS IN VALENCIA

ACCOMMODATION FOR 250,000 AT COST OF £1,000,000 LONDON, October 21. The Mayor of Valencia (Senor Domingo Torres) announced that underground refuges accommodating 250,000 people had been built since the spring of 1937 at a cost of £1,000,000 defrayed by popular subscription, says the Madrid correspondent of The Daily Telegraph. They had saved thousands of lives.

Spaniards in the United States had sent 2000 tons of cement and 250 tons of galvanized iron for shelters, said Senor Torres.
