PRAIRIE AUTONOMY IN CANADA?
WHEAT FARMERS ALLEGE DISCRIMINATIONS
OTTAWA, October 21. The Saskatchewan branch of the United Farmers of Canada adopted a resolution appointing a comihittee to consider seriously the secession of the prairie provinces in favour of a western autonomous State within the Empire, democratically governed. The convention alleged tariff discrimination against the farmer and assailed the failure of the Government to peg the wheat at a dollar instead of 80 cents. . The Dominion Government is watching anxiously the Anglo-United States trade treaty impasse. The CanadianUnited States trade pact is ready, but the collapse of the other treaty would annul it, necessitating new negotiations likely to require many months.
