AT LAST THEY’RE HERE!
MARIONETTE SHOW UNIQUE CHILDREN’S FASHION PARADE Something quite new in mannequin parades will open at H. & J. Smith’s tomorrow, when Miss Marie Harvey will introduce her marionette show.
Miss Harvey, as a buyer in one of London’s largest stores, evolved this idea of having children’s fashion parades with marionettes and it met with immediate success. Her marionettes, which were fashioned first in clay and then in papier mache, became distinct personalities under her direction, and her running commentary contributes to the enjoyment of the performance. Pansy, Priscilla, George and the bad boy, Leslie, and the others in the com-, pany in their up-to-date, serviceable and delightful frocks and suits, are all life sized, and after appearances all over England set out on a world tour, chaperoned by Miss Harvey and her two assistants. Though marionettes, Pansy, Priscilla and company act in the way of ordinary normal children, romping, quarrelling and playing, going to parties, to bed, and to the beach. A parade of nursery-rhyme characters com-, pletes the performance. Here are Little 80-Peep, Mary, Mary—she of the silver bells and cockle shells—and other people from Nursery Rhyme Land. All are colourful, and altogether delightful, and mothers will find inspiration for frocks for fancy dress parties here. The whole performance is novel and interesting, and apart from its entertainment value should provide a guide for those setting out to equip their children, from the tiniest upward, for the coming season.- Presented in this way, children’s fashions can be made equally interesting to the child and to the adult. Full particulars of the performances are given in H. & J. Smith’s advertisement on Page 9.—Advt.
