OBITUARY
MR G. T. WALKER The death occurred recently at Invercargill of Mr George Thomson Walker at the age of 68. He was a son of the late Mr John Walker, a builder, of Invercargill, and in 1895 was married to Miss Margaret Elizabeth Calvert, daughter of the late Mr and Mrs James C. Mcßae Calvert, of Roslyn Plains. i Mr Walker followed the building and cabinet-making trade and was for many years employed by William Smith and Co. Ltd. He was an enthusiastic bowler, being a member of the Southland Bowling Club. Mr Walker also took an interest in church affairs, and was for 30 years a member and officebearer of the Esk street Baptist Church. He took a very active interest in lodges and during 40 years’ membership of the Loyal Pioneer of Southland Lodge, 1.0.0. F., gave service to the order. After passing through all the offices of his own lodge he served as district deputy-Grand Master and as Grand Lodge representative, and was also for a term chairman of the local board of control of the United Friendly Society dispensary committee. Among his many activities in lodge work was the founding of the Star of Bluff Lodge, in which he served as the first Noble Grand. Up to the time of his death Mr Walker was still recording secretary. Mr Walker is survived by his widow.
