MILDER DAY TEMPERATURES (Special to The Times) WELLINGTON, August 12. Following is the official weather forecast for Southland, issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington:— Moderate to fresh winds between south-west and north-west Some scattered showers still probable in coastal areas, but weather fair to fine. Milder day, but cold night temperatures. Seas slight to moderate, but rising at times in Foveaux Strait Following is the Dominion forecast:— Weather for the most part fair to fine, but some scattered showers still probable in the extreme north and south. Milder day, but cold night temperatures, with some sharp frosts. General Situation.—The anti-cyclone mentioned yesterday is now _ centred east of New South Wales, but is losing intensity. Pressure has been rising slowly over New Zealand. Winds.—Light to moderate and rather variable, with south-westerly predominating at first, but gradually tending to northerly about and south of Cook Strait , Seas.—ln New Zealand waters rather rough at first north of Kawhfc, elsewhere slight to moderate. In the eastern Tasman Sea light to fresh winds between south and west, with rather rough but decreasing seas.

The weather in Invercargill yesterday was cold and wet. A strong wind blew from the south-west. At one o’clock this morning the sky was overcast and there was a strong wind.
