SUCCESSFUL VISIT TO BLUFF VARIED PROGRAMME YESTERDAY After a visit to the Farmers’ Dairy Federation, where they saw butter being made on a big scale the delegates to the country women’s education week organized by the Southland Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union listened to a talk on beauty culture given by Mrs W. Lewis. A visit was made to. Bluff yesterday afternoon and several industries of the port were inspected. The women were welcomed on arrival by the Mayor (Mr John Cameron) and Mrs Cameron, the chairman of the Bluff Harbour Board (Mr W. A. Ott) and Mrs Ott and representatives of local bodies. The party then proceeded to the Southland Cool Stores where a short talk was given by Mr M. R. Tennet, dairy produce grader. A visit was made to the Stewart Island canneries and this was followed by an inspection of the Port Line steamer Port Bowen. At the Town Hall the visitors were entertained at afternoon tea. Various speakers emphasized the need for modernizing the port and discussed the relative importance of shipping to the country residents of the district. Mrs W. Orr, president of the Southland executive of the Women’s Division, on behalf of those present, expressed thanks for the instructive afternoon’s programme that had been provided.. In the evening a talk on folk music was given by Miss N. Enderby, head mistress of St. John’s Girls’ School.
