Miss A. Robertson, Taramoa, has been spending a holiday at Myross Bush and Rimu.

Mrs M. Williams, Roseneath, Wendonside, and Miss Myra Shelker, _ of Timaru, are the guests of Mrs L. Smith, Hardy street. Mrs J. L. Robertson (Invercargill) and Mrs A. V. Waddell (Bluff) were recent callers at New Zealand House, The Strand, London. Mrs I. Craig has been elected a life member of the Invercargill Horticultural Society in recognition of her valuable services to the sSciety over a big number of years. At Cannes, Miss Jean Batten has been presented with the Harmon Trophy, which she has now won three years in succession. These bronze trophies are awarded each year to one airman, one airwoman, an airship pilot, and a spherical balloon pilot by the International League of Aviators. The league was founded in 1926 with the object of fostering friendly relations among aviators of sll countries. Mr Clifford B. Harmon, who endowed the Harmon trophies scheme, handed the trophy to Miss Batten at a reception held at the Hotel Martinez. The Arts and Crafts Circle of the Southland Women’s Club met yesterday afternoon when a talk on poultry dressing and preserving was given by Mrs S. J. Randle. The following members were present: Mesdames Frampton, Milward, Randle, Robertson, Hargreaves, Coltman, Royds, Gillanders, Petrie, Gilbert, Earl, Parfitt, L. C. Smith, Vickery, Cruickshank, Fraser, Dickens, Cutt, Uttley, E. H. Smith, Parker, Tapper, Hackworth, McCrostie, Munnings, Mills, Bath, McDonald, Anderson, Ford; Misses Rein, Muir, McKay, C. and J. McLeod, Bonnington.
