CHANGEABLE AND PASSING SHOWERS (Special to The Times) WELLINGTON, May 6. Following is the official weather forecast for Southland, issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington:— Moderate to strong, but decreasing south-west to southerly winds. Weather changeable, with passing showers in places, more especially in coastal areas. Temperatures cool. Seas rather rough to rough, but moderating. Following is the Dominion forecast:— Weather changeable, with occasional rain in districts with a westerly aspect. Elsewhere, mainly, fair, e but scattered showers later in parts of the eastern districts of the South Island. An improvement beginning tomorrow. Temperatures, mild but falling somewhat General Situation.—An anti-cyclone is centred over south-eastern Australia and extends across the north Tasman Sea. Pressure has risen over New Zealand, but is still relatively low in the south. Winds—North to west except in the far south, but a change to southwesterlies gradually extending over most of the Dominion. Force moderate to strong generally and gale force probable in exposed positions about and south of Cook Strait.

Seas.—New Zealand waters, rather rough to rough on the west coast and in the Cook and Foveaux Strait areas. Elsewhere, slight to moderate, but later rising on the east coast of the South Island. Eastern Tasman Sea, strong south-westerly winds to gales and rough to high seas, but conditions gradually moderating tomorrow. The weather at Invercargill yesterday was showery with mild temperatures. At one o’clock this morning the weather was warm and mild, and there was no wind. The barometer readings for the last three mornings have been as follows:— This morning (rising) 29.66 Friday 29.42 Thursday 29.62
