SCHOOL COMMITTEE At a meeting of the Fairfax School Committee there were present: Messrs A. J. Office (chairman), H. Clark, W. T. Oliver and V. J. Brownridge and Miss Sim. A letter from the secretary of the Southland Education Board stating that the newily-appointed head teacher, Mrs Fairbanks, would begin her duties on February 1, was received. It was decided to spend £4 on books for school prizes. CYCLE ROAD RACE The 17-mile cycle road race, run by the Fairfax Athletic Society, was won by J. Herbison, P. Bone was second and M. Forde third. Seven riders started. PERSONAL Mrs H. Ward, Benmorven, is visiting Brydone and Dunedin.
