WOMEN’S DIVISION

WAIKIWI BRANCH The results of the competitions at the monthly meeting of the Waikiwi branch were as follows:— Knitted cosy, Mrs Steele and Mrs Chilton, 1 equal, Mrs Allen and Miss Steele, 2 equal, Mrs McLeod and Mrs Waters, 3 equal. Aggregate for the year: Mrs Wilson, 1, Mrs McDougall, 2, Miss Steele, 3. Best bloom: Mrs Waters, 1, Mrs Martin, 2, Mrs McDougall, 3; aggregate for year: Mrs Waters, 1, Miss Neas, 2, Mrs Steele, 3. A demonstration was given by Mrs Chapman on wood pulp flower work. Hostesses for the afternoon were Mrs N. J. Robertson and Miss Robertson. Mrs W. A. Robertson presided over an attendance of 16 members. WOODLANDS BRANCH A bring and buy sale was held at the monthly meeting of the Woodlands branch. Mrs A. Frew presided over an excellent attendance. The result of the best bloom competition was: Mrs A. O. Fleming, 1, Mrs T. McKinnel, 2, Mrs J. Robbie, 3. One of the members, Miss Margaret Robbie, who is shortly to be married, was bade farewell. Mesdames A. Frew, J. Hannan, and A. O. Fleming spoke of Miss Robbie’s work and Miss F. Henderson presented her with a gift from the members.

Musical items were given by Mrs R. McNatty and Misses L. McKenzie and A. McKinnel. Winners of the various competitions were Mrs S. Caird, Mrs W. Bell and Misses H. Frew, and B. McHardy. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames R. F. Walker, J. A. McDonald and Miss Corrie. OTATARA BRANCH At the monthly meeting of the Otatara branch Mrs Hawkes presided over a fair attendance of members. Mrs Cameron and Miss Gerrard were appointed hospital visitors for the present quarter. Competition results were as follows: Best Bloom: Miss Tuffery, 1, Miss Gerrard, 2, Mrs Low, 3. Best Novelty: Mrs Blomfield, 1, Mrs Robinson, 2, Mrs Hawkes, 3. Mrs Robinson and Mrs Morris were hostesses. The branch held its fifth birthday celebration, which took the form of a euchre and dance. Visitors from the West Plains and Waikiwi branches were present. Miss Rae lit the candles and Miss S. Rodger the youngest member, blew them out. Miss Robertson president of the Waikiwi branch, cut the cake. Mrs Ogilvy (West Plains) and Mrs Blomfield, vice-president, also cut a slice. Mrs Hawkes was presented with a bouquet of red and cream roses. The euchre prizes were won by Mrs Blomfield (women) and Mr B. Berry (men). Other competition winners were:—Monte Carlo, Miss A. Treloar and Mr J. Paterson; spot waltz, Miss P. Colvin and F. Blomfield. DIPTON BRANCH There was a fair attendance of members of the Dipton branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’

Union at a meeting. Mrs A. Lindsay presided. Members passed a motion of sympathy with the relatives of the late Mrs McDonald, Winton. The competition results were: —Best bloom, Mrs F. S. Sinclair 1, Miss L, McDonald 2. Best Christmas novelty, Miss M. Craig 1, Mrs A. Lindsay 2, Miss G. Craig 3. Other competitions were won by Misses Caird and Mcßae and Mrs Reece.
