INVERCARGILL T.C.

ENTRIES FOR SPRING MEETING The Invercargill Trotting Club decided this season to hold two one-day meetings instead of the usual two-aay meeting in March. The wisdom of this move was questioned in some quarters, but the club must feel pleased with the number of nominations received for the first meeting to be held on October 30. The total entries received was 134 as compared with 143 on the first of the two-day meeting last season. Considering that the meeting is being held so early in the season, a decrease of only nine is more than satisfactory. The decrease can be accounted for by the absence of “foreign” horses, northern trainers apparently not being keen to come south for a one-day meeting. There is plenty of material entered, however, to provide an excellent day s racing and the public will be given an opportunity to see horses in action that are not usually seen until the Christmas circuit. The opportunity to race their charges here prior to the Gore and Winton meetings is welcomed by many trainers, especially those with maiden performers and the outcome of the club’s action will be awaited with interest. A detailed comparison of the entries for this meeting compared with the first day of the annual meeting last March is

CHAMPION AMERICAN TROTTER PROBABLE VISIT TO NEW ZEALAND (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, October 20. The champion American trotter, Greyhound, who holds the world’s record of 1.56 for the mile, is almost certain to visit New Zealand early next year. The desire of the New Zealand trotting authorities is that Greyhound shall take part in the international trotting meeting at Addington next Easter and at which the best New Zealand and Australian trotters will compete. It is known that Greyhound’s owner is anxious to bring the gelding to New Zealand and his main concern has been about the quarantine requirements. Arrangements have been made for the horse to spend the necessary 28 days in quarantine at the Government research station at Wallaceville, where good stables and grass paddocks will be available instead of spending the period on Somes Island. PINK BOND SOLD A SPEEDY FILLY The two-year-old filly Pink Bond, which paid a sensational dividend when she won after showing great speed at Wingatui early this month, has changed hands, Mr T. E. Pankhurst having sold her to Mr W. D. McLeod, a patron of his" stable. The price is not disclosed. Pink Bond has engagements at the New Zealand Cup meeting next month and until then will remain in charge of T. Hobbs, of Oamaru, who has been training her for several months. Mr McLeod is also the owner of a yearling full sister to the daughter of Pink Coat-Tray Bond.
