BECOMING CLOUDY TO OVERCAST (Special to The Times) WELLINGTON, October 20. Following is the special weather forecast for Southland, as issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington:— Moderate to strong northerly winds. Weather becoming cloudy to overcast, with scattered rains. Temperatures mild. Seas rough in the western areas, elsewhere slight to moderate Following is the Dominion forecast:— Weather still for the most part fair to fine. Scattered rains developing, however, in the western and southern portions of the South Island and gradually extending northwards over districts with a westerly aspect. Temperatures mild. General Situation.—The meteorological situation over the Dominion is still dominated by an anti-cyclone. A depression is moving slowly across the Tasman but it has been losing intensity and is now only a shallow one. Winds.—Light to moderate and, at first, variable, but north-easterly to northerly soon predominating and gradually freshening about and south of Cook Strait. Seas.—New Zealand waters, slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea, moderate to fresh north-east to northerly winds, with moderate seas. The weather in Invercargill yesterday was warm and fine. The sky was overcast for a time in the morning, but the sun shone for the greater part of the day. A southerly breeze was blowing. At one o’clock this morning the weather was warm and cloudy, with a light westerly breeze.
