TOURNAMENT AT SEAWARD DOWNS The Seaward Downs Basketball Club held its annual tournament in the public hall recently. Five A grade and seven B grade women’s teams competed and the competitions were won by Seaward Downs and Waimahaka I respectively, while a men’s knock-out tournament resulted in Seaward Downs defeating Edendale in a well-contested final. There was a large crowd of spectators. The officials responsible for the success of the function were as follows: — Supervisor, Mr H. P. Bryant, time keeper, Mr R. S. Weir, scorer, Mr W. Bagrie, blackboard steward, Mrs J. T. Morton; door keepers, Messrs James McKenzie and W. Palmer; referees, Messrs E. S. Macfarlane (Wyndham), H. Hickey (Edendale), H. P. Bryant (Seaward Downs) and Mrs J. Dunlop (Mataura Island). At the end of the tournament, Mr H. P. Bryant, on behalf of the Seaward Downs Club, thanked the teams and the public for their support and the officials for their assistance in making the function successful. To the Tuturau Club, which that evening had played in an evening tourney for the first time he extended a special invitation to future tournaments. The detailed results of the tournament were as follows: — A grade.—Mataura Island beat Wyndham, 4—o; Seaward Downs beat Menzies Ferry, 9 —o; Edendale beat Wyndham, 4—o; Mataura island beat Menzies Ferry, 4—o; Seaward Downs beat Wyndham, 2—l; Mataura Island beat Edendale, 2—o; Wyndham beat Menzies Ferry, 4—2; Seaward Downs beat Edendale, 4—l; Seaward Downs beat Mataura Island, 4—o; Edendale beat Menzies Ferry 4—o. Points: Seaward Downs 8 points, Mataura Island 6 points, Edendale 4 points, Wyndham 2 points, Menzies Ferry nil. B grade.—Waimahaka I beat Seaward Downs. 3—2; Edendale beat Waimahaka, 3—l; Tuturau beat Wyndham, 1—0; Tuturau beat Glenham, 3—l; Waimahaka I beat Wyndham, 3—l; Seaward Downs drew with Edendale, 1 all; Waimahaka II beat Tuturau, 1—0; Waimahaka I beat Edendale, 3 —l; Wyndham beat Glenham, 2—o; Seaward Downs beat Tuturau, 1—0; Waimahaka I beat Glenham, 3—o; Waimahaka II beat Wyndham, 2—l; Tuturau beat Edendale, 2—l; Seaward Downs beat Wyndham, s—o; Waimahaka H beat Glenham, 2—l; Waimahaka I beat Waimahaka H, 2—o; Wyndham beat Edendale, 2—o; Seaward Downs beat Glenham, 3—o; Waimahaka I beat Tuturau, 1—0; Edendale beat Glenham, 1—0; Seaward Downs beat Waimahaka H, 3—l; Points: Waimahaka I 12 points, Seaward Downs 9 points, Waimahaka II 6 points, Tuturau 6 points, Edendale 5 points, Wyndham 4. points, Glenham nil. Second round.—Edendale beat Menzies Ferry, 3—o; Seaward Downs beat Mataura Island, 1—0;. Final: Seaward Downs beat Edendale, 2—l.
