SNOOKER
WORLD’S RECORD BREAK BY DAVIS JOHANNESBURG, June 14. Joe Davis, when playing snooker, made a break of 120, beating Horace Lindrum’s world record by 6. The maximum points which can be scored by “potting” in a game of snooker are 147, made up of 15 blacks (with initial reds) 120 points, and the coloured balls (yellow, green, brown, blue, pink and black) 27 points. To do this a player would have to “pot” all of the balls, including the “potting” of the black ball 16 times. The “clearing” of the table in one break is not unique. Davis’s record score might not have entailed the “potting” of all the balls. On the other hand, a “break” including all balls “potted” need not yield the maximum points.
