A letter dictated and signed by Robert Louis Stevenson is among the latest acquisitions of the Turnbull Library, Wellington. It was posted at Vailima, Stevenson’s place of residence in Samoa, in 1893, and is addressed to Mr Ben Hird, an old friend of the author. As Stevenson at the time was suffering from scrivener’s cramp, the letter was dictated to and written by Isobel Strong, his adopted daughter, but the signature is that of the famous author. The letter will be added to the other R.L.S. relics in the Turnbull Library.
