FALL OFF AN ENGINE

A SHUNTER’S DEATH. (United Press Association.) Wellington, August 14. An inquest was held to-day ~ on George Burden Cornfoot, a shunter, who dislocated his spine when stepping from an engine on August 7. The finding was that death was purely an accident from injuries sustained in the fall. The engine-driver’s evidence was that it was raining hard at the time and there was a southerly squall. He heard a shout and saw the deceased falling. The step of the tender came in contcat with bis neck. The accident occurred at points where the deceased would have the intention of stepping off the engine which was going about five miles an hour. The deceased was an experienced shunter and a sober and industrious man.
