A SLAUGHTERMAN DISMISSED
Mates Down Tools
TROUBLE SETTLED (United Press Association.) Auckland, August 14. A stoppage of work in practically every department of the Westfield Freezing Works occurred to-day when exception was taken to the dismissal of a slaughterman who was one of the leading officials of the Union. About 600 workers were involved in the dispute which was settled when the management reinstated the official. The foreman of a department dismissed the slaughterman, who is alleged to have been late in returning to work. The action was resented on the ground that it was unwarranted and the men downed tools and walked from the floor with similar workers of other departments. After the conference the dismissed man was unconditionally reinstated and work was resumed within an hour of the trouble developing.
