TERM EXTENDED FOR A YEAR
QUEENSLAND COMMISSIONER OF RAILWAYS. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 5.5 p.m.) Brisbane, August 14. The term of office of the Queensland Commissioner of Railways (Mr J. W. Davidson) has been extended for a year. This will be his 19th year as Commissioner, a record for Australia. A previous message stated: —“The term of office of the Queensland Railway Commissioner expires in October, and rumour is rife that the position will be offered to the New Zealander, Mr H. H.. Sterling (Chairman of the New Zealand Railways Board). Some Ministers are reported to favour the appointment of a board of three commissioners, with a chief commissioner as chairman, while others favour an extension of the term of office of the present Commissioner (Mr J. W. Davidson).
