DOG TRIALS

SOUTH ISLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS. Excellent entries from all parts of the South Island must result in* a highly successful South Island dog trial championship meeting at Mossburn this week. The trials open to-day, and the secretary of the association (Mr L. Dawson, of Mossburn) told The Southland Times yesterday that an entry of about 65 dogs would be competing in the first event, the long heading class. Competitoi’s had come from the West Coast, all parts of Canterbury, and Otago and Southland. The championships were held at Mossburn three years ago and were a great success. With favourable conditions, from today until Saturday, outstanding performances are predicted. With such a big entry, it was not thought that the first event would be finished before Wednesday evening at the earliest.
