KENNINGTON NOTES
SPORTS CLUB DANCE. (From Our Correspondent.) The dance held on Saturday evening was not so well attended as the previous one owing to numerous more attractive dances in town. Even so the evening was an enjoyable one and a financial success. The music was supplied by Mrs Mills (piano), Mr Mills (zither banjo), Mr B. Dawson (melodeon), Mr R. McLean (violin)., Mr C. Henderson was as usual an efficient M.C. Dancing was prolonged until shortly before midnight when supper was served and a pleasant evening ended. The Rimu School Committee met in the school on Friday night, when there was a full attendance, the chairman, Mr K. Henderson, presiding over the following: Messrs W. Emmerson, T. Guthrie, A. Hewitson and H. Bulling secretary. Mr A. Cook, the head teacher, was also in attendance. The secretary of the Show and Paddy’s Market Committee reported that the share for the school was £lB 10/-. Correspondence, regarding the forthcoming school’s jubilee, from the board showed that the school was opened in 1885 and the committee decided to call a public meeting to discuss the jubilee and to arrange committee for the same, to be held next year. The opening of the school was altered from 9.15 to 9.30 for the winter months. It was decided jo have a cocoa club as usual for the winter. The chairman congratulated the teacher, Mr A. Cook, on the outstanding success of the school’s garden exhibit at the recent Invercargill Winter Show and also the display of school produce at the
local show. The headmaster was authorized to purchase for the school children’s library £6 worth of books.
