DAVIS CUP MATCH •j —— KEEN CONTEST WITH FRANCE CRAWFORD EXTENDED (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) Paris, June 10. Australia defeated France in the Davis Cup match by three rubbers to two. Each side won two singles and Australia won the doubles. The singles played to-day resulted as follows: J. H. Crawford (Australia) defeated C. Boussus (France), 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 3-6, 9-7. A. Merlin (France) defeated V. B. McGrath (Australia), 6-4, 5-7, 6-3, 6-4. In the first set Boussus hit audacious winners and returning Crawfords best shots took the set. Crawford won the second set after being down 2-4. In the third set, Crawford, playing with his normal consistency, led 5-3 and from the net forced his opponent into errors. The fourth set was won by Boussus, who showed brilliant form. The Australian led 5-3 in the final set, but Boussus evened the score to 5-5. Crawford had three match points before he finally won. With the tie won, the MerlinMcGrath match was more in the nature of an exhibition.. McGrath had insufficient pace and was uncertain in his attack.
