SOVIET PROTEST
RED GUARDS AMBUSHED. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 7.50 p.m.) Moscow, June 11. The Soviet has strongly protested to Japan against the violation of Soviet territory by a Japanese Manchurian detachment which allegedly ambushed and attacked two mounted Red Army Guards, one of whom was either killed or wounded and carried off to Manchurian territory. The Soviet demands an immediate investigation and the punishment of those guilty. JAPANESE VERSION RUSSIANS FIRE AT PATROL. (United Press Assn.— Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 7.50 p.m. Tokio, June 11. The foreign spokesman said that the army reported that Soviet cavalry on June 3 entered Manchu territory near Minshan, on the eastern frontier, and fired at a Japanese patrol. The Japanese took cover and shouted to them to cease fire unavailingly, whereupon they responded, killing one Soviet of the troops. The others retreated. t The Japanese military representative protested on June 5 to the Soviet Consul at Harbin, while the Soviet Embassy in Tokio counter protested on June 10 to the Foreign Office and stated that the incident occurred on Soviet territory. It is expected that the dispute will be negotiated at Harbin.
