A CAPITALIST WAR
LABOUR WOULD NOT TAKE PART.
GOVERNMENT’S POLICY OPPOSED.

“In no circumstances will we participate in a war waged under capitalist rule for capitalist ends, declared Sir Stafford Cripps at the Socialist League Conference at Bristol, when proposing a motion calling on the National Council of Labour to summon a conference of the whole working-class movement to consider the danger of war and to decide methods of mass resistance to the Government’s present policy. Sir Stafford Cripps added that a Socialist Government must be free to reconsider Britain’s existing commitments. Defence would be necessary, but it would be the defence of England owned and controlled by the workers. The resolution was carried unanimously. •
