Miss Freda Stuckey, who has been the guest of Mrs W. W. Hinchey, Gala street, returned to Dunedin yesterday. Miss June Mitchel, Earnslaw street, is the guest of Mrs W. J. Cowie, Boggy Burn. Mr and Mrs Angus Macdonald, The Plains Station, Mossburn, arrived yesterday to be the guests of Mrs John Macdonald, Avenal, for a few days. Mr and Mrs A. F. Speight arrive today from Redcliff to spend a few days in town as the guests of Mrs R. J- Gilmour, Herbert street. Miss Mavis Cockroft, Leet street, who has been the guest of Miss Jean Parry, Bluff, for the past week, has returned home.

After spending her vacation with her parents, Mr and Mrs H. J. Macalister, Duke street, Miss Patricia Macalister returned yesterday to Dunedin where she is a student at the Otago University.

At the Dominican bail, held annually by the ex-pupils of St. Catherines Convent, twelve debutantes will be presented this year to his Lordship, the Rt. Rev. Dr Whyte. The function takes place in Smith’s Hall on Monday. June 24, and invitations have been issued.

Guests at the Club Hotel during last week included Miss E. C. Smith (Winton), Mr and Mrs J. Dickie (Auckland), Mrs M. Petrie, Miss J. Butson (Gore), Miss A. They have come to the Mother Country purely to see Mrs Jenkins’s relatives, who live in Scotland.

On Monday afternoon members of the committee of the St. John’s Girls’ School Old Girls’ Association visited the president, Mrs J. L. Hazlett, “Gretna Green,” Oreti. when plans were discussed and arrangements made for the forthcoming bazaar which is. organized annually by the Old Girls. A letter from a past president, Mrs Leslie Fulcher (nee Francess Russell) of London was read and the secretary instructed to reply to it.

The Invercargill branch of the Christchurch Girls’ High School Old Girls’ Association held their fourth meeting for the year at the home of Mrs F. H. Hughes, Louisa street on the evening of May 31. ,/tfter the business had been conducted' a short play was read and the evening closed with supper and welcome to a new member of the branch. Those present included:— Mesdames F. H. Hughes (hostess), A. Napper, T. Mathews, J. B. Rowntree, C. R. Wavish, D. E. S. Mason, G. G. Douglas, R. J. Cornwell, E. F. O. Smith, C. B. Mathewson and J. Yates; Misses F. E. Earwaker, M. E. A. Hulston, M. Lockwood and D. Marshall. An apology was received from Mrs Worsefold.
