Health in the Home
(By a Family Doctor.)
“A year ago 1 was forty years old and since then I have cut out all really strenuous exercise. Is this the right thing I have done?” This question was put to me yesterday by a perfectly healthy man, and I must say I found it very difficult to give him a de/inite answer. So much depends on the individual —on his health and also on his interests in life. “I have always made a point of taking plenty of . exercise and now I felt it would be wisest to cut it down a bit.” This last point I feel is a good one. If you, in your younger days, take a lot of exercise for exercise’s sake then you had best start reducing the amount of it after foiZy —particularly so if you are a Uusy person and have plenty of other flings to occupy you. The other indications for cutting down on exercise are: (1) An increasing tendency to get easily out of breath; (2) Feeling over-tired in the evenings; (3) Any suggestion of pain in the chest during exercise. If, on the other hand, you have none of these symptoms, are a person of leisure and have no interests beyond outdoor sports, then I feel there is no reason why yoy should not carry on.
