SOUTHLAND GIRLS NEXT WEEK’S PROGRAMME A comprehensive and interesting programme has been drawn up for the girls’ educational week to be held in Invercargill next week under the auspices of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union. It is expected that about 100 Southland girls will attend. All meetings and demonstrations will be held in Smith’s Hall, Esk street. The programme is as follows: — Monday Evening.—Picture party at Majestic Theatre, “Great Expectations,” Dickens. Tuesday.—lo a.m.: Assemble Smiths Hall; roll call; “My Work or Hobbies”; all girls to speak for two minutes. 11 a.m.: Morning tea. 11.30: Short speeches of welcome by Mayor and presidents of kindred associations. Reply by Joyce Smith. 12.30: Lunch. 2 p.m.: Lecture on Drama by Mr J. J. W. Pollard. 2.30: Play ' reading—Drama Circle, Women’s Club. 3 to 5: “Let’s go Shopping.” Evening free. Wednesday.—lo-10.30: Address, Mrs Ward, Dominion president;- morning tea. 11-11.30: Address, Mr R. J. Gilmour, on “Modern Journalism.” 11.3012.30: Times Office, visit linotype machines. 2-3 p.m.: Books! “What Shall We Read?” Mr T. D. Pearce, M.A. 3-5: Visit Rosedale Woollen Mills. 7.30 p.m.: Music and musical items, Dr. Stanley Brown. Thursday.—lo a.m.: Visit KaritaneHunt Home; talk by Matron Ingold. 11.45-12.30: “Character and Environment,” Miss Eastwood, M.A. Technical College, 2.30 p.m.: Demonstration on Foods, Miss R. Blackie, B.H.Sc. Technical College, 3-4: “Art in the Home, Mr T. H. Jenkin, A.R.L.A. Technical College, 4-5.30: Visit Museum. 7.30 p.m,: Floral Demonstration—Mrs P. A. Thomson. 8 p.m.: Debate, “That Country Life is Preferable to Town Life. Friday.—lo a.m.: Visit H. and J. Smith’s kitchen. 10.30-11: Beauty Culture, Miss V. Henshaw. 11.15-12.30: First Aid, Dr. Moana Gow. 2 p.m.: Demonstration, “The Dinner Table,” Mrs W. Quinn. 2.30-4 p.m.: Learn to Dress Suitably, H. and J.
