RUGBY FOOTBALL

EASTERN SUB-UNION. MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE MEETS. The weekly meeting of the management committee of the Eastern Southland Rugby Football Sub-Union held last evening was attended by Messrs J. W. Aitken (president), D. G. Grant. T. G. Gray, A. H. Davidson, I. Cunningham, F. M. Murray, N. McLeod, J. W. Martin, I. C. Millar, J. A. Edwards, H G. Wallis, F. Wallis, jun., and R. S. Green (secretary). The secretary of the Menzies Ferry Club wrote concerning the playing of Marshall against Wyndham without a transfer. They had had no other player present at the time and had considered that' with the consent of the Wyndham team all would be in order The secretary was instructed to inform the Menzies Ferry Club that if they had won the match the game would have been awarded to Wyndham. Marshall was granted a transfer from Edendale to Menzies Ferry. The stationmaster, H. N. Pascoe, wrote stating that the district traffic manager, Invercargill, had advised that the special train services arranged in connection with the Northern and Eastern Rugby football games were being operated at a loss and that the head office had directed that these trains might be scheduled to run on Saturday, June 8, but ordinary fares must be paid. If the trains on Saturday next did not receive sufficient patronage, no further services could be arranged. The matter was left in the hands of the secretary. The secretary of the Southland Rugby Union advised that July 17 had been set down for the Sports Trust Cup match between Eastern and the holders.

'Hie date was accepted. It was decided to play a third round in the third grade competition. Mr Davidson reported on the match at Invercargill on Country Day, saying that everything went, smoothly. The team played remarkably well and surprised everybody, including themselves. Mr Davidson was thanked for his report. ____________
