With the exception of the first week of May which was very boisterous and unsettled with southerly gales, calmer conditions prevailed for the month. Several very sharp frosts were recorded about the middle of the month. Rain fell on 14 days, the total registered being 4.37 in. as against 8.30 in for the same period in 1934, and 6.23 in 1933. The dairying season has now finished and the local factory ceased for the season at the end of May. The output at the local factory was well maintained during the season and will show a very small decrease on last season when 216 tons were made. Euchre. The winners last week at the Football Club’s tournament were Miss J. Ericson and Mr J. Blair jun. Church Fair. A sale of work in aid of the funds of the Waikawa-Tokonui mission charge was held at Otara on Tuesday evening when the satisfactory sum of £24 clear was taken. Competition winners were: Ladies’ candle-lighting, Miss A. Swan; men’s, Mr T. Hanning and Mr J. T. Gardiner equal; girls’, Miss Jean Blair; boys’ Ron Ericson; paper dressing, Miss McDermit and Mr T. Hanning; paper walking. Miss G. Tomlins and Mr J. McGarvie jun.; weight of goose, Mr Jim Smith; weight of cake, Miss N. Casey; length of string in bottle, Mr F. A. Hughes; time candle burnt out, Mr F. Ericson; men’s wool winding, Messrs F.- Ericson and J. Blair jun.
