ADVERSE VOTE

SWISS NEW DEAL FAILS.

(United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 5.5 p.m.) Berne, June 2. Owing to an adverse vote in the majority of the cantons, the referendum for the Swiss new deal failed. Had the referendum been carried the Government would have spent £53,000,000 on public works and debt relief.

Three hundred and thirty-five thousand electors signed an appeal for launching this programme after a long, bitter struggle against the Centre and Right Parties who contended the increased debt involved would have driven Switzerland off the gold standard.
