AUTUMN SHOW

MAKAREWA WOMEN’S DIVISION AN EXCELLENT DISPLAY. The second annual show of the Makarewa W.D.F.U. was held in the Makarewa Hall, the array of blooms and industrial work making a fine display. Despite the fact that the season is not considered a good one the exhibits staged were considered most satisfactory in both number and quality, and reflect much credit on the exhibitors.

Commenting on the cut flower section, the judge (Mr John Bayne, of Invercargill) stated that the show might be considered a highly successful one, the quality of the blooms being very good. A vase of asters exhibited by Mrs F. Hormann was an outstanding exhibit and worthy of a place in any show. A very fine display of dahlias, including the more recent varieties, was exhibited by Mrs McDowell. The judge of the produce section (Mrs Lindsay, of Wallacetown) remarked that the quality of the exhibits was of a high standard. Misses Lumsden and Ward, of Invercargill, who judged the industrial section, commented favourably on the quality of the knitting displayed. The work throughout was very pleasing. The judging was carried out expeditiously, and due to the good work of the secretary (Mrs McDougall), and the officials, the doors were opened to the public at 2.30 p.m.

Opening the show, Mr James Hargest, M.P., said the display was a credit to the members of the Women’s Division.
