CANADIANS WIN McLAUCHLAN FIRST IN THE MILE THRILLING RACE (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 12.15 a.m.) Melbourne, Nov. 9. Canada with 83 points won the interEmpire schools’ sports. Victoria scored 58 points and New Zealand 29. The most thrilling race was the mile in which New Zealanders were first and second. The Empire Games broad jump champion, S. Richardson (Canada), was defeated by Letcher (Victoria) after a dead heat. The track was heavy. Results:— Weight Putt—Wares (Canada) 1, Steele (Victoria) 2, Coxhead (New Zealand) 3. Distance, 46ft lOfin—a record.
