Bible Class Banquet at Queenstown
To mark the close of the social season for 1934, the combined Bible classes of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian and St. Peter’s Anglican churches held a banquet in the Mackenzie Hall on Monday evening, October 29. Throughout the winter the two classes have combined and held monthly socials, which have proved most successful, and the banquet was a fitting conclusion to the season. The Rev. W. W. Powell, leader of St. Peter’s class, occupied the chair, and
the guests of honour were Mrs W. W. Powell, Mrs W. H. Berry, Mrs S. Barclay, and the Rev. and Mrs Humble.. In his opening remarks the chairman gave an interesting address on the Bible Class movement. The Rev. D. Heggie, of Cromwell, who was unable to attend the banquet, made an unofficial visit and spoke to the members for a few moments. The following contributed musical items: —Vocal quartet, Misses Marion Paterson, Mary McKinlay, Molly Simson and Mary Mclnnes; musical monologue, Miss Esther Percy; vocal duet Miss Girlie Hales and Mr A. A. Amyes; pianoforte solo, Miss Conqie Beer; recitation (humorous) Mr Colin Clayton; violin solo, Mr A. Amyes; novelty pianoforte solo, Miss Girlie Hales. Those present were: The Rev. W. W. and Mrs Powell, the Rev. and Mrs Humble, Mrs S. M. Barclay, Mrs W. H. Berry, Mrs W. Davies, Misses M. Paterson, M. Nelson, A. Nelson, C, Thompson, R. Liddell, E. Ashworth, M. McKinlay, C. Beer, D.
