VICTORIA COLLEGE

CHAIR OF HISTORY. STATEMENTS ALLEGED TO BE MISLEADING. (Per United Press Association.) Wellington, November 6. Mr P. Levi, chairman of the Victoria College Council, stated to-day in connection with last - night’s discussion in the House of Representatives that he cannot disclose matters that have occurred in committee, although some members have been talking. He said, however, that the statements made in the House of Representatives by the Leader of the Opposition and Mr Walter Nash are misleading. There are circumstances which prevent any announcement being made at. present as to an appointment to the Chair of History. It might be stated, however, that the question considered by the Council in committee was the respective merits of the two candidates each with very good qualifications, and supported by excellent testimonials.
