IN TOWN AND OUT
NEWS OF THE DAY A Prolific Yield. No fewer than 52 well-formed blooms were contained on a stalk of yellow primroses grown by Mr Harris, of Waianiwa, who brought it to the Times Office yesterday. * * Duration of Session. “When do you think the session will end?” queried a reporter of Mr David McDougall, M.P., on Monday evening. His reply was to the point. “If I go to sleep they will never finish,” he remarked. * a Sale of Cheese. The directors of the Mataura Dairy Factory Co., Ltd., report that they have sold approximately 300 tons of cheese to Messrs Lane and Co. at 5Jd a pound. This quantity represents the output of the factory for September, October and November. ♦ ♦ * * Mere Lucky Men. A resident of Gore told a Times reporter yesterday that although he lost the sweet pea race by several lengths he has well beaten the Invercargill man who lived to be 45 years before entering a court room. The Gore resident is now nearly 65 years of age and has lived close to a court house nearly all his life and has not yet seen the inside of a court room. Although habitually modest, the reporter to whom these circumstances were related could not forbear to add his claim to distinction in that while he is a regular attender at Court he was one of the winners of the sweet pea race. . * • • Prospect cf Settlement.
When the defended case Phena Guest versus James Holland (a claim for a mandamus compelling the defendant, as president, to recognize the plaintiff as honorary secretary of the Southland Women’s Hockey Association) was called in the Supreme Court yesterday morning, Mr H. J. Macalister, who represented Miss Guest, asked for an adjournment as there was a possibility that the matter would not come before the Court. Mr B. W. Hewat, who appeared for the defendant, said that a suggestion had been made which, ; f acceptable to his client, would dispose of the matter. The case was accordingly stood over in the meantime without a fixture.
