A Skilled Needlewoman.

The remarkable accomplishments of a sister of Lady Mary Wortley Montagu will be revealed by the Scottish Exhibition of Needlework taking place in Edinburgh in October. Lady Mary’s letters, written two centuries ago, won her fame, and one of the results of this exhibition will be to win renown for her sister Frances, the Countess of Mar, in the world of needlecraft. A carpet nearly 16ft long by over lift wide was worked by this skilled needlewoman, whose husband is remembered as the “attainted Earl.” Another beautiful piece of work by Lady Mary Montagu’s sister will be shown, a fourfold screen in flower and feather designs in chenille on petit point. The Duchess of York hopes to visit the exhibition, for which many wellknown people have already bought season tickets.
