WAIKAKA NOTES

LAWN TENNIS. HERIOT v. WAIKAKA. (From Our Correspondent.) On Saturday the first match in the West Otago Tennis Competition was played when Waikaka met Heriot on the local courts. The weather was fine although a strong wind was blowing and the sky was overcast. Some very good games were witnessed by the few spectators present, but Heriot proved too strong for the local team, winning by 10 sets (87 games), to 6 sets (59 games). The following is the result of the match (Heriot names being first): — Men’s Singles: Morrison 4 v. Robertson 7; McLennon 5 v. Thomson 7; Steele 7 v. Turnbull 3; Calverley 7 v. Matheson 1. Ladies Singles: Miss Lowe 6 v. Miss I. Paterson 1; Mrs Calverley 6 v. Miss H. Turnbull 1; Miss I. Paterson 6 v. Miss E. Gardyne 2; Miss Mac Kay 2 v. Miss C. Paterson 6. Men’s Doubles: Morrison and McLennan 4 v. Robertson and Thomson 7; Steele and Calverley 7 v. Turnbull and Matheson 0. Ladies Doubles: Miss Lowe and Mrs Calverley 6 v. Miss I.
