HANDICAP RESULT FIRST PRIZE WON BY PARMENTIER MELROSE SECOND (United Press Assn.— Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 10.50 p.m.) Melbourne, Nov. 5. The official placings in the handicap air race are as follows: — C. W. A. Scott (Britain) 1 K. D. Parmentier (Holland) 2 C. J. Melrose (Australia) 3 As Scott won the speed race he is ineligible for the handicap prize, this being won by Parmentier with Melrose second. The net flying times of all the handicap competitors were as follows, the handicaps being shown in parentheses: hr. min. C. W. A. Scott (35min. 24sec.) 64 48 K. D. Parmentier (6hr. 31min. 12sec.) 76 38 C. J. Melrose (40hr. 58min. 12sec.) 79 17 D. E. Stodart (20hr. 51min. 36sec.) 79 32 M. C. McGregor (35hr. 22min. 12sec.) 82 43 J. D. Hewett (21hr. 9min.) 85 42 M. Hansen (42hr. 2min. 24sec.) 87 45 As Parmentier has accepted the first handicap prize the second speed prize goes to Colonel Roscoe Turner and the third to K. Waller. The prizes were as follows:— Speed Race.—First, £lO,OOO and gold cup valued at £650; second, £1500; third, £5OO. Handicap Race.—First, £2000; second, £lOOO.
The pilot of every aircraft to complete the course within 16 calendar days also receives a gold medal.
STILL ON THE WAY DAVIES AT ALLAHABAD. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) Calcutta, November 3. Flying Officer C. G. Davies, who was a competitor in the air race, has arrived from Allahabad, but his departure is uncertain owing to magneto trouble. DUTCH~AIR LINER ‘ DEPARTURE FORM DARWIN. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 11 p.m.) Darwin, November 5. The Dutch air liner that competed in the air race, piloted by K. P. Parmentier and J. J. Moll, arrived at Darwin at 3 p.m. to-day after a fast trip from Brisbane and later left for Koepang. NEW ZEALAND AIRMEN RECOGNITION OF FLIGHT. (From Our Parliamentary Reporter.) Wellington, November 25 The question of making some monetary recognition of the flights from England to Australia of SquadronLeader M. C. McGregor and Mr H. C. Walker, and Messrs J. D. Hewitt and C. E. Kay has not yet been considered by the Government. Discussing the question to-night, the Prime Minister said that any decision must necessarily be delayed until the men arrived in New Zealand.
