TENNIS MATCH. (From Our Correspondent.) The weather was fine on Saturday afternoon when the Winton team visited Limehills to play the first match in the Central District tennis competition. Limehills 7 sets, 96 games. Winton 9 sets, 93 games. Basketball Club Ball. The members of the Limehills Basketball Club held their annual ball in the Limehills Hall on Thursday evening, when there was a very large attendance, visitors being present from all the surrounding districts. Music was played by the Troubadors Orchestra (Invercargill), while the supper extra was played by Miss N. Crowe. The duties of M.C. was carried out by Mr C. Grant. Mcßae and family who have left the district to take up farming at Mokoreta. The function took place in Mr W. J. Cowie’s bam and dancing was indulged in to music supplied by Mrs Cowie, Messrs Phillips, L. Cowie (piano), B. Mehaffey, C. Watson (violins), J. Gibbs (bagpipes). Mr C. Grant was M.C. Mr W. Cowie presented the guests of honour with a wallet of notes, at the same time expressing the regret of all present at their departure and wished them every success in their new district. These remarks were endorsed by Mr J. Keith. Mr Mcßae suitably returned thanks for the handsome present. Women’s Institute. At the monthly meeting of the Limehills Women’s Institute, Mrs W. M. Walker presided over an attendance of 35 members. The motto was: “To have what we want is riches; to do without it is power.” The roll call was, “How can I best improve my institute.” The points . competition resulted: Three girdle scones, Miss N. Crowe 1,, Miss E. Crowe 2, Mrs W. Nicol 3. Homemade soap, Mrs Nicol 1, Misses N. and E. Crowe equal 2. A lecture was given by Mr W. Watson (Winton) on poultry and was greatly enjoyed ’by all. A hamper of goods from the Blind Institute was on sale and was well supported.
